To put it in simplistic, cliché terms, this movie was basically a Brazilian gritty, Michael-Mann-esque that you really can’t see coming. Despite being less than 2 hours long, there is enough time to give background on characters, flesh out characters, tell a complex story, and still have a few action scenes. This movie does what so many other films fail to do: it does not waste time. Another thing it does well is not reveal the message of the movie until the end. You think it’s supposed to be one thing and then you think it’s supposed to be another, but really these are just pieces adding up to the big picture. This is a pretty solid movie that is definitely best going in knowing as little as possible so that you can let your mind try to determine what it is supposed to be about. That’s not to say that there are huge twists, just that with most American movies you can see where the story will take you almost immediately. Not quite the case here.
